چکیده

Simon et al suggest that composite fermions (CF) must be replaced by composite bosons (CB) and “111” state is a boson state. However, we find that such a transition in real GaAs is not possible and the CF state can not become a boson. Simon et al suggest that the total number of CFs and CBs is conserved. However, we find that the number of quasiparticles need not be conserved. Similarly, Simon et al suggest that CFs are formed but we find that this formation does not conserve energy so that CFs will not be formed. Simon et al compute using products of fermion and boson wave functions. We find that these results are not in agreement with the experimental data.

Comments on “Evidence of Landau Levels and Interactions in Low-Lying Excitations of Composite Fermions...” by Dujovne, Pinczuk, Kang, Dennis, Pfeiffer and West, cond-mat/0211022

Dujane et al suggest that observed spectra are a result of spin-split Landau levels and spin-flip energies reveal composite fermion(CF)interactions. We find that the CF model is independent of spin so that the interpretations of data by Dujovne et al in terms of CF model are incorrect. It may be pointed out that the experimental mass of the quasiparticles is several orders of magnitude smaller ...

Quasiparticles in quantum Hall effect: Smet’s fractional charges

It has been pointed out by Smet that there are fractional-charge values which do not fit their formula of composite fermions. We find that our formula predicts these fractional charges very well and in fact there exists a relationship between spin and the effective charge of a quasiparticle. For some years it was thought that " flux quanta " are attached to the electron. Considerable effort was...

Composite fermion theory of rapidly rotating two-dimensional bosons

Ultracold neutral bosons in a rapidly rotating atomic trap have been predicted to exhibit fractional quantum Hall-like states. We describe how the composite fermion theory, used in the description of the fractional quantum Hall effect for electrons, can be applied to interacting bosons. Numerical evidence supporting the formation of composite fermions, each being the bound state of a boson and ...

Statistics of Composite Fermions in Quantum Hall Effect

The high Landau level filling fractions 5/2, 7/3 and 8/3 are interpreted by using the angular momentum model. It is found that for the odd number of flux quanta, the quasiparticles called the " composite fermions " are fermions but for even number-, the quasiparticles are a mixture of bosons and fermions. Therefore, the theory of " composite fermions " is internally inconsistent.

Interlayer coherent composite Fermi liquid phase in quantum Hall bilayers.

We introduce an interlayer coherent composite Fermi liquid for nu = 1/2 + 1/2 bilayers, in which interlayer Coulomb repulsion drives exciton condensation of composite fermions. As a result, composite fermions propagate coherently between layers--even though electrons do not--and form bonding and antibonding Fermi seas. This phase is compressible with respect to symmetric currents but quantum Ha...
